“You need to do better for everyone”.

Megan Rapinoe has had quite an eventful summer.

Before the Women’s World Cup even kicked-off, a reporter asked the USA captain if she would go to the White House if they were to win.

She responded that she was “not going to the f—— White House.” Trump replied by tweeting a series of tweets which read: “I am a big fan of the American Team, and Women’s Soccer, but Megan should WIN first before she TALKS! Finish the job!

“We haven’t yet……..invited Megan or the team, but I am now inviting the TEAM, win or lose. Megan should never disrespect our Country, the White House, or our Flag, especially since so much has been done for her & the team. Be proud of the Flag that you wear. The USA is doing GREAT!”

Roughly a month later, America won the World Cup, defeating the Netherlands 2-1 in the final, while Rapinoe finished both the top scorer in the tournament, and player of the tournament.

In an interview where she revealed that not one member of the team that she has spoken to would visit the White House, Rapinoe spoke directly to Donald Trump in a powerful speech.

She said: “Your message is excluding people. You’re excluding me, you’re excluding people that look like me, you’re excluding people of colour. You’re excluding Americans that maybe support you…

“I think that you’re harking back to an era that wasn’t great for everyone. It might have been great for a few people. Maybe America is great for a few people right now, but it’s not great for enough Americans in this world.”

She did however say that she would go to Washington to have an official meeting with Democrat Alexandria Ocasio-Cortez.

After their world cup heroics, the US Women’s team will play their first game as the newly-crowned world champions against Ireland on 3 August.
