Adidas had a very smart ad ready to roll out for Andy Murray last night

The Scot claimed the Sports Personality of the Year on the BBC last night and his sponsors had a bit of fun with it.

The Scot claimed the Sports Personality of the Year on the BBC last night and his sponsors had a bit of fun with it.

There was never really any doubt who was going to pick up the BBC’s top sports gong last night. While Leigh Halfpenny had a great year for Wales and for the Lions, and while AP McCoy and Mo Farah continued to display almost superhuman excellence in 2013, a British winner of Wimbledon was always going to win.

Andy Murray was in Miami preparing for the Australian Open so he was beamed into the studio via satellite and he was the first to acknowledge that he may not come across as that exciting, but he blamed the tone of his voice.

“No matter how excited I try to sounds my voice always sounds boring – that’s just my voice, I’m sorry! I’m very excited right now! Thank you very much everyone.”

In fairness, we think Murray might be sound, he just hates all the crap that goes with being a sports star.

Anyway, the folks at adidas, who sponsor Murray, were very quick to get an ad out congratulating their man on his success, poking fun at his perceived lack of charisma.

As you can see by the number of retweets, it certainly worked.
