We're going with a patent for this weekend's fancies as a host of sporting events are cancelled, and we wouldn't want you throwing money away on scutter.

Arsenal have been banging in the goals this season and Saturday’s visit of Fulham to the Emirates could result in a goal fest.

Mark Hughes is hanging on for dear life with the Cottagers as they hover over the relegation zone and a hammering by the Gunners looks on the cards.

They knocked four in against Aston Villa last weekend and two in the Carling Cup against Wigan midweek, so Arsenal to beat the Cottagers by more than two goals is a decent bet at 2/1.

Racing is crippled by the adverse weather this weekend with meetings at Punchestown and Clonmel, amongst others to be cancelled.

The all-weather track at Dundalk will serve its purpose for die hard punters and watch out for David Marnane’s runner, ALMADAA, in the third race on Saturday afternoon at 1.35.

This three-year-old is yet to get in the winner’s enclosure but placed finishes on the all-weather looked promising. This fella is 4/1 to get home in front.

Completing our patent we turn to golf and at the time of writing Ireland’s Graeme McDowell  is tied for second in the Chevron World Challenge in California.

McDowell trails leader Tiger Woods by one shot and shares second place with fellow Irishman Rory McIlroy.

We trust that G-Mac will play some wonderful golf shots to triumph (in a ridiculous American/Northern Irish twang) at a currently handsome price of 11/2.

A €3 patent (total outlay €21) will return €537.
