Punter who bet on Leicester City to win the Premier League makes the “worst cash out in history”

What was he thinking?

Plenty of football fans – and not just Leicester City supporters – would be happy to see the Foxes clinch the Premier League title against Manchester United this weekend, but one Ladbrokes punter will be thinking what might have been.

Ladbrokes today revealed details of what they’ve dubbed “the worst cash out decision in history” following one punter’s decision to cash out ridiculously early on a 5,000/1 bet on Leicester City to win the Premier League at the start of the season.

The punter in question, from the midlands in the UK, got cold feet pretty much immediately, cashing out for just 45p after Leicester’s City 4-2 win over Sunderland on the opening day of the season, shortly after having bet 50p on Claudio Ranieiri’s side to win the league at 5,000/1.

The punter would have netted a cool £2,500 (approximately €3,220) had he kept faith with the Foxes (assuming they’re going to win the league, of course) and as a consolation, Ladbrokes want the customer to come forward in order to offer him a pair of tickets to a game of his choice next season plus a free bet on any team to win the 2016/17 title.

Alex Donohue of Ladbrokes said: “This will go down as the worst cash out decision in history. Plenty of 5000/1 backers took sums midway through the season when it looked in the balance, but we wonder what our man didn’t like about the 4-2 win on the opening day of the season.”

He added: “We are offering our customer an all-expenses paid day out at a game next season plus another title bet to make amends to soften the blow. With judgement this good, any long term title bets should be left to ride.”

That’s a pretty decent consolation to be fair, if the punter in question is prepared to reveal himself, of course…
