Rhasidat Adeleke has won 200m silver at the European Athletics Championships in Birmingham, clocking a national record of 22.28 seconds at Alexander Stadium.
The 23-year-old’s run capped a memorable night for Ireland, coming hot on the heels of Mark English’s 800m gold, as The 42 reports.
Great Britain’s Amy Hunt, already the 100m champion in Birmingham, doubled up with 200m gold in 22.19, while her compatriot Dina Asher-Smith took bronze in 22.29.
Adeleke split the pair with a powerful finish, and her 22.28 is now the fastest 200m ever run by an Irish woman.
The Dubliner had won her semi-final in a season’s best to book her place in the final.
Two medals in a single evening is a serious return for the Irish squad in Birmingham.
Adeleke, one of the athletes named on Ireland’s European Athletics Championships team, leaves the meet with a national record to go with the silver.

Adeleke said: "I feel blessed to come away with a medal. My initial thought was, ‘Oh I didn’t win,’ I had to bring it back to who I want to be.
"I don’t want to be that person anymore. I want to find gratitude in everything. As soon as that sank in – I broke the national record!
From where I’ve come from this season, even last season, I have nothing else to do but be grateful, honestly."
