The former world number one’s participation in the Ryder Cup must be in doubt now.

Tiger Woods has withdrawn from the WGC-Bridgestone Invitational at Firestone with a back injury.

The American pulled the lower part of his back, the source of his most recent injury problems, and withdrew on the eighth hole on four-over-par for the tournament.

Sergio Garcia leads the tournament by three strokes from Rory McIlroy, with both players set to get their final rounds up and running later this evening.
