Why Spurs profit from a Troy Parrott deal

The 24-year-old was one of the most prolific goalscorers in European football last season, and his expected departure from the Dutch club is nearing a conclusion as the summer window winds down.

Parrott has been linked with Ajax, Real Betis, Porto and RB Leipzig in recent months, but West Ham have emerged as the surprise favourites for his signature.

The London club have already had an €18 million bid rejected, and are expected to return with an improved offer in the coming days.

AZ are understood to want a fee in the region of €30 million before sanctioning a sale.

The Dubliner joined Tottenham's academy at 15 and spent almost a decade on Spurs' books before being sold to AZ for a fee worth around €8 million, with Spurs holding a 20 per cent sell-on clause.

A €30 million sale would see them pocket roughly €6 million (£5.1 million) on top of the original fee, a tidy return on a player who made just a handful of senior appearances in north London.

It's a big summer for Ireland's forward options generally, with fellow Ireland striker Evan Ferguson also making headlines ahead of the new season.

The Parrott saga is expected to be resolved before the end of the month.
