It’s all over.
Euro 2016 came to a close in the Stade de France after the host nation and Portugal played out a scoreless draw in normal time.
The eventual winner came from substitute Eder’s long-range effort, and despite accusations of having played a boring tournament it was hard to deny that Portugal deserved it on the night.
With Ronaldo withdrawn after 20 minutes due to injury the odds were stacked against Portugal – who had beaten only Wales in 90 minutes throughout the entire tournament.
But the Portuguese withstood French pressure, took it to extra time and grabbed the win with an Eder goal – 12 minutes from time. Here’s how Twitter reacted to the match:
Do you think Ronaldo will let Nani lift trophy with hi……ha ha ha ha ha 😅

Ronaldo has gone full-John-Terry-against-Benfica, meanwhile. At the edge of the technical area issuing tactical instructions.

Amazing that Ronaldo seems to have elevated his reputation since coming off

Ironically, this game will do more for the benefit of Ronaldo's reputation than many he's played… #EURO2016

Andrea Leadsom will have that goal against France on her CV by the end of the week

If France lose this after a dodgy handball I might die laughing, actually die

Deschamps finally puts Martial on. Dismal performance by the France coach. Too negative and unambitious
