Call us immature (many have and will continue to do so) but for some reason, seeing a grown man getting hit by a ball of any sort in his delicate regions remains a consistent sort of laughter for a lot of menfolk.
Sure, we empathise with the victim because most of us have been there ourselves, but we can’t help but chuckle either. As Homer Simpson once said, it works on so many levels.
Puerto Rican golfing legend Chi Chi Rodriguez was the latest to suffer that rather ignominious fate in public recently when he attempted to shoot a golf ball through a pane of glass from close range on the Golf Channel’s Big Break NFL Puerto Rico.
Needless to say it did not go to plan, with the ball rebounding off the glass and hitting him straight in the crown jewels, much to the amusement of the audience and to the discomfort of the 78-year old Rodriguez.
Thankfully, he seemed to be OK and was joking about it fairly immediately afterwards and despite the pain he must have went through the first time, he even gave it another go and pulled it off.
