Apple announces the winners of the 2014 iTunes’ Store Awards

Only the best apps make the cut

The lads at Apple have picked out what they think are the top apps, games, music, books and TV shows on iTunes this year…

Only the best of the best make it into Apple’s end of year iTunes Awards and this year there were some stand out apps among the list.

As always, only one app could be crowned the winner of the best app overall and that title went to Elevate, a brain training app that claims to “improve critical skills that are proven to boost productivity, earning power, and self-confidence.”

The Game of the Year went to Threes! which Apples says is “a tiny, number-matching puzzle game that grows on you”.

As for the iPad’s top rated software, the iPad app of the year went to Pixelmator which is a powerful image editor that gives everything you need to create, edit, and enhance your images. It’s basically Photoshop, but on your iPad.

The iPad Game of the Year went to Monument Valley, which sees you having to guide a silent princess through a fantasy world by manipulating unique architectural monuments and after watching the trailer we have to say it looks very cool.

As for other media featured on iTunes, Best Artist went to Beyoncé, Best Album was Taylor Swift’s 1989, Best Song went to Iggy Azalea for her hit tune Fancy, while Sam Smith was crowned Best New Artist.

The Best Movie of the Year went to Guardians of the Galaxy, while Fargo was named as the Best TV Show on iTunes.
