Leaving Netflix March

The clock is ticking.

We all have a look at our My List on Netflix from time to time and realise we’ve had a movie on it for so long we can’t even remember adding it.

Now imagine there’s that one movie you’ve been meaning to get around to for years now, only to discover it’s been taken off the streamer. We can’t imagine a worse scenario, honestly.

Well this is our warning to you that these absolute gems are going to quietly slip off Netflix at the start of March and it should be your prerogative to watch as many as you can before they head off. It’s time to finally tick them off the list while you have the chance.

Napoleon Dynamite (2004)

This 2004 cult classic is disappearing from Netflix next week and it would be a real shame not to jump on the chance of watching it. Starring Jon Heder as the titular character and Efren Ramirez as his best friend Pedro, this off-kilter comedy focuses on the life of some unpopular high school kids as they enter their school presidential race. Vote for Pedro.

Paul (2011)

Another underrated flick featuring comedy duo Simon Pegg and Nick Frost, Paul stars the Cornetto Trilogy actors as two British sci-fi enthusiasts who travel to the United States to attend the annual San Diego Comic-Con. They embark on a road trip through the Southwestern U.S. to visit UFO sites, eventually stumbling upon the titular Paul, an alien voiced by Seth Rogan.

Public Enemies (2009)

Michael Mann will mark his return to directing soon, currently working on the upcoming Enzo Ferrari biopic starring Adam Driver, so now is a perfect opportunity to catch up on his back catalogue in preparation. Public Enemies is another biographical story about notorious 1930’s bank robber John Dillinger played by Johnny Depp. Also starring Christian Bale and Marion Cotillard, Public Enemies is definitely worth a watch for any crime movie fans.

Eternal Sunshine of the Spotless Mind (2004)

One of the best movies of the 21st Century, Eternal Sunshine is one of those flicks that people pretend to have seen but don’t want to admit they haven’t. If you fall into that category, this week is the perfect opportunity to finally give it a watch, you won’t be disappointed. An Oscar winner for Best Original Screenplay, the Michel Gondry film stars Jim Carrey and Kate Winslet as a couple who, after they break up, erase each other from their respective memories. It’s one of the great modern romances.

Leaving Netflix: March 2nd

Hot Rod (2007)

The film to bring the phrase ‘cool beans’ into the modern vernacular really deserves your time and if you’re a Lonely Island fan then this under-the-radar comedy will be right up your street. Hot Rod stars Andy Samberg as amateur stuntman Rod Kimble who raises money to execute his largest stunt yet to aid his disrespectful stepfather, Frank (Ian McShane) after he becomes ill. The film also stars Jorma Taccone, Sissy Spacek, Will Arnett, Danny McBride, Isla Fisher and Bill Hader.

3:10 to Yuma (2007)

Modern Westerns are a bit of a rarity these days but when one comes around it’s usually a good’un. 3:10 to Yuma is a remake of the 1957 movie of the same name and stars Christian Bale as a rancher who takes up a contract on a dangerous outlaw played by Russell Crowe. It’s a real old-school, broody Western with Crowe pulling off one of his best performances in a proper bad guy role.
