They’re taking over…

Do you have a smartphone? Of course you do. You’re probably reading this on your smartphone with your baby finger underneath the phone and other three fingers behind the phone.

According to a recent survey by Carphone Warehouse, 81% of Irish people in Ireland own a smartphone. And, surprise surprise, two thirds of people say they wouldn’t be able to live without it.

The study of 1,000 Irish people was carried out by Coyne Research on behalf of Carphone Warehouse and gives an interesting insight into Smartphone use in Ireland.

Many people don’t seem to be too content with what they have however, as 42% of those surveyed say that they intend to buy a new smartphone in the next year. Hardly surprising with the release of the new iPhone 8 and the coming iPhone X.

Three quarters say that they message friends every day on their phone while 84% say they use it to check their emails every day.

There’s been a a surge in people using their phones to watch TV and movies due to the growth of Netflix and other streaming platforms with over one quarter of people using their phones for this purpose.

It’s been a big couple of weeks in the world if smartphones, for Apple in particular. After launching their iPhone 8 and iPhone 8 Plus, they upgraded their operating system to iOS 11 which has unlocked a host of new features for iPhone users.
