It looks like they might have saved the best of the Arkham series for last

Arkham Knight is one of the games that we must say we’re most looking forward to this coming year, and anyone who regularly reads the site will know that we’re big fan girls of the whole series, even if the last one wasn’t quite as good as the previous ones.

However, this next title in the series is going to be the final one (apparently) and the development returns to the folks at Rocksteady Studios, who handed over the previous project to WB Montreal. It wasn’t a mess by any means, but it was a tad formulaic, so they’re ready to shake things up in this latest edition, with plenty of changes coming to the game.

It will be set in a Gotham that has been taken over by criminals, so it retains that open world feeling, and perhaps the most exciting bit of news to date is that we’ll be able to use the Batmobile for the first time. And we don’t mean parallel parking and taking it down to the shops, the vehicle has been described by Sefton Hill of Rocksteady as “unstoppable”, and one of the main reasons they’re releasing on next-gen consoles is so you can take to the streets of Gotham and drive the iconic vehicle through walls, over rubble and take whatever shortcuts you like, essentially.

The developers are planning on putting plenty of effort into the way in which the Batmobile and your character interact, including having a button that allows you to call it whenever you want and being able to launch straight into the air and glide from the Batmobile too.

The screenshots also showcase a new villain in the Arkham Knight of the title (we’re guessing he’s the fella that looks a bit like Bats himself) and all of this sounds good to us, so we’re really looking forward to the release date, which won’t be for a while we expect.
