Twitter announced a pretty big deal with a company owned by a pair of brothers from Limerick today

As Ron Burgundy might say, this is kind of a big deal for Limerick brothers Patrick and John Collison.

As Ron Burgundy might say, this is kind of a big deal for Limerick brothers Patrick and John Collison.

Twitter today announced that they would be partnering with Stripe, the company set up by the Collison brothers, to deliver a service that will allow Twitter users to buy goods directly from the social networking site by using a ‘buy’ button embedded within a tweet.

The company, which is based in San Francisco, provides a service that allows individuals and companies to accept payments over the internet and is one of a number of companies that Twitter announced a partnership with today to conduct initial tests as they look to expand their user base and increase revenue.

The service that allows Twitter users to buy goods online via the ‘buy’ button in a tweet will be rolled out amongst a limited number of Twitter users in the US today, but the number of people with access to it is expected to grow over time.

In a blog post today, Twitter announced: “Users will get access to offers and merchandise they can’t get anywhere else and can act on them right in the Twitter apps for Android and iOS.”

Since launching in 2010, Stripe has gone from strength to strength and today’s news represents a significant boost to their development; earlier this year, it raised a cool $80 million in Series C funding and was valued at a whopping $1.75 billion.

Keep up the good work lads.
