Three days on from the mother of all rants about Sean Cavanagh on RTE, Joe Brolly wasn’t about to back down from his views on THAT tackle and cynicism in the GAA on the Last Word this evening.

The controversial analyst was invited onto the Last Word on Today FM after a huge reaction to his rant following Tyrone’s victory over Monaghan on Saturday, during which he raged about the approach employed by Mickey Harte’s side in recent weeks and even questioned Cavanagh’s character ‘as a man’ following a tackle which denied Conor McManus a clear goalscoring opportunity during the second half.

While Brolly wasn’t nearly as angry as he was in the RTE studio on Saturday, he still stuck to his guns about Cavanagh, saying that he was calling him out over his actions, that he was “damaging his reputation” and “creating a terrible impression for younger people”.

Brolly acknowledged that Tyrone aren’t the only county guilty of a cynical approach but did say that they were serial offenders and argued that he singled out Cavanagh, Mickey Harte and Tyrone because he was “picking out the big guys because you don’t want to picking out the weak”.

You can hear Brolly’s interview, including what he had to say about his hugely commendable work with the ‘Opt for Life’ organ donor campaign, in full on the link on the Today FM website below; Brolly’s bit starts just after the 34 minute mark.
