Bad week for gardai just got worse

A female garda, who claims she was raped by a fellow garda after a drinking binge, will have her case examined by the Director of Public Prosecutions.

For over a year now the accusation has been under investigation while the male garda in question has continued to work without suspension.

The female garda claims that she was locked in a bedroom in the early hours of the morning after an all-night drinking session with other gardai which moved from an afterhours club to a house party at a garda’s residence.

Sources say the female garda was in bed at around 6am and got up to go to the toilet. When she came back, one of the gardai was in the bed and she asked him to leave.

He allegedly refused to do so, locked the door and raped her.

It is claimed that the garda is in his 20s and that some of the gardai in the house knew the door was locked and heard noises coming from the bedroom.

None of the gardai have been suspended, as of yet, and if the DPP recommends charges, the male garda concerned faces suspension pending the outcome of a trial.

This story breaks after a week that saw an off-duty garda that beat a man unconscious in Cork jailed for six months after pleading guilty to assault over a 'gay shirt' remark.
