Two members of “Celebrity Bainisteoir” club St Michael’s of Lissan in Derry appear to have taken their impending TV stardom to heart by engaging in a celebrity-style pub brawl in Galway last month.
The players appeared in court in the city on Monday charged with breaching the peace in the Spanish Arch area of the city in the early hours of Sunday 23 October last.
The Derry club had played Galway side Oughterard in a Celebrity Bainisteoir clash the previous afternoon.
The result went against them on that occasion, and their bainisteoir, Daniel O’Donnell’s wife Majella, decided to take them out on the town to drown their sorrows.
At some point in the night emotions ran a little high, it seems, as Inspector Ernie White told Galway District Court: “They had too much to drink and things got out of hand. When one of the team was asked to leave the pub they all took umbrage and the trouble started.”
The pair in question – named as Michael McIvor of Letteran, Cookstown, Co Tyrone, and Kieran Donnelly, Letteran Road, Moneymore, Magherafelt, Co Derry – pleaded guilty to the charges but avoided convictions for public order offences after donating €300 to the court’s poor box.
All told, though, the most hair-raising aspect of the whole affair was that ... Daniel O’Donnell’s WIFE was considered famous enough to be a celebrity manager?
Z-List, indeed.
