While we may not think too much about the rest of their summer schedule, RTE’s Euro 2012 coverage looks pretty good to us.
For the feast of football about to be spread before us you will have a host of options, with RTE, ITV and BBC all offering TV coverage of this summer’s fun and games in Poland and Ukraine.
But most of us will stick with the old reliables on RTE, even if we don’t always agree with their analysis, especially when it comes to one Cristiano ‘Bottler’ Ronaldo.
So lining up for our amusement/entertainment/annoyance once again this summer are the familiar foursome of Bill O’Herlihy, John Giles, Liam Brady and Eamon Dunphy. As the saying goes, we will miss then when they’re gone.
But who else will be on hand to spice up the coverage of Russia v Czech Republic or Ukraine v Sweden? RTE confirmed that Kenny Cunningham and Richie Sadlier will also be involved, as well as the big hit of their 2010 World Cup coverage, former Liverpool midfielder Didi Hamann. For his entertaining accent alone he deserves his recall.
The lads from Apres Match will be back too, so that should bring a smile to our faces, even if some of the 31 games in the Euros, all covered by RTE, fail to fire.
Now we note that Roy Keane is not mentioned but we knew that he was tied up with ITV for the tournament and we will certainly sneak a peek at him if and when he does an Ireland game.
Apart from that it will be RTE all the way, with maybe a quick flick to see how the BBC are getting on as they watch England struggle against Sweden.
Can't wait.
