Travelling around the capital could be tricky this weekend and beyond after Dublin Bus confirmed cancellation of Nitelink services tonight ahead of probable strike action tomorrow.

The threat of strike action has lingered for some time and passengers looking to navigate their way around Dublin should have alternative plans in place after it was confirmed this afternoon that Nitelink services will not be in operation tonight, on one of the busiest weekends of the year.

A statement on the Dublin Bus website read: “Dublin Bus wishes to advise customers that due to probable industrial action, services may not operate on Sunday 4th August.

“Nitelink services will not operate tonight, Saturday 3rd August.

“Dublin Bus apologises to customers for any inconvenience caused.”

The strike comes as Dublin Bus seeks to reduce spending by almost €12million in an attempt to achieve financial stability and following a breakdown in negotiations between the company and the unions representing the drivers, SIPTU and the National Bus and Rail Union (NBRU).

According to The Irish Times, strike action will cost Dublin Bus in the region of €200,000 per day and hundreds of thousands of passengers will be affected.

Customers are advised to check the Dublin Bus website and Dublin Bus News on Facebook and Twitter for updates prior to travelling.
