We want this to be true so much it hurts…
We know this story is probably a load of b*llcks but if there is even a shred of a chance that the most entertaining CEO in the world is about to buy a Premier League club then we are all in. Last night, a site called winnersports.com reported that WWE supremo Vince McMahon has ‘expressed an initial interest’ in taking Newcastle United off Mike Ashley’s hands.
The story has just enough about it to be true. We all know that Ashley would be happy to offload the Magpies for the right price and with McMahon’s net worth estimated at just over $1billion, we know he has the money to do the deal.
Add in the fact that many other smart overseas owners have seen the potential earnings available in the Premier League and there is just enough for us to suspend belief on this one.
And hey, if anyone is the expert at making us suspend belief it is Mr McMahon. Realistically though, back in 2011, a very similar story appeared before being quickly debunked so this is more than likely a rehashing of an old tale.
Still, that hasn’t stopped jokes flooding the internet overnight, like this imagined team sheet.

We wonder what Joe Kinnear would make of this XI?
For now, we will continue to dream of Stone Cold Steve Austin putting the stunner on Howard Webb midway through the Tyne-Wear derby but we won’t be buying a spanking new black and white jersey with ‘McMahon 1’ on the back just yet.
