Harlem shaken – Charleroi striker sues TV company after being called ‘fat as a pig’ on air

Harlem Gnohere might have a name that sounds like a cross between a YouTube hit and an STD, but he is not a happy camper. Not a happy camper at all.

Harlem Gnohere might have a name that sounds like a cross between a YouTube hit and an STD, but he is not a happy camper. Not a happy camper at all.

The Charleroi striker, is what you might describe a burly centre-forward, but Belgian commentators were a little more hard-hitting with regards to his physical shape over the weekend during the club’s 2-1 defeat against KV Kortrijk.

According to Gazet Van Antwerpen, Belgacom TV’s Stephane Pauwels claimed that Gnohere was “Fat/thick (depending on whose translation you use) as a pig,” and that “He is 15 kilograms too heavy and going nowhere.” There’s telling you Harlem.

Needless to say, Gnohere found the comments difficult to digest and decided to take legal action against the commentator and also sought a public apology. The Charleroi frontman did concede that he’d be perfectly willing to drop all the charges if Pauwels agreed to make a charitable donation.

Some observers feel he may struggle on soft ground

Pauwels did apologise on Twitter, saying he should have said “a few too many kilos”, but there is no word about a donation as of yet.

Good thing the likes of Tomas Brolin, Neville Southall and even Man Utd’s Anderson never plied their trade in Belgium then.
