The Reds, returning to Europe's elite club competition for the first time in five years, will also face FC Basel and Bulgarian minnow Ludogorets.
In a repeat of last season's group stages, Manchester City were drawn against Bayern Munich and CSKA Moscow, while they will also go head-to-head with AS Roma in what appears to be the toughest group in the draw.
Arsenal face Borussia Dortmund, Galatasaray and Anderlecht, while Chelsea take on Schalke, Sporting Clube de Portugal and NK Maribor.
