This has been flying around the net but in case you missed it, here’s a brilliant video about Leitrim’s All-Ireland football semi-final with Dublin in 1994.
While the GAA appears to be about sport it is actually about where you are from, who you live with and the community behind every team.
The smaller the place, the more it means. That’s why the All-Ireland Club Championship is so powerful and meaningful. Look at Crossmaglen for example.
At the inter-county level that is diluted a bit, especially in the big counties. But for a county like Leitrim, the smallest in the land, then the team means a lot, a hell of a lot, and most of it has nothing to do with winning or losing.
Seamus O’Rourke has put together this brilliant film to look back at Leitrim’s All-Ireland semi-final appearance against Dublin in 1994. It’s fantastic and a better explanation of what the GAA means to most us than anything we have seen in years.
Enjoy and congratulations to Seamus for a great pice of work.
