Not content with nicking Ciaran Murphy’s job as sideline reporter for Newstalk’s GAA coverage, Colm Parkinson is also keeping busy having a few digs at Kildare.
His feelings towards Kildare’s Aindriu MacLochlainn are well known. A quick look back at the Woolies, Parkinson’s end of season awards last November, make his feelings towards the defender pretty clear.
Anyway, Kieran McGeeney named his team for the Lilywhites’ weekend clash with Offaly and Woolberto couldn’t resist having a pop at his old foe.
The recipient of the tweet, KFM, may have retweeted it, drawing this response from another current Lilywhite, Ronan Sweeney, which was retweeted by yet another Kildare star, Emmet Bolton.
While all of this is very entertaining, the best part of this is that Newstalk are covering Offaly-Kildare this weekend, meaning that Woolly should be very close to some of these very pissed off Kildare men on Sunday. It could be the most compelling two hours of radio ever, not for the match, but for the impending battle between a new member of the fourth estate, armed with only a mic, and a whole Kildare team with a lust for revenge. Sadly, the man himself has just tweeted that he will be in Poznan this weekend, robbing us of one of the summer highlights. We remain hopeful that Woolly will be recruited for one of Kildare’s games this summer.
It’s all white
As we said above, Geezer named his team for the clash but he didn’t name his subs, leaving the door open for yet more Seanie Johnston speculation. Despite what you may have read this morning, Johnston is still not eligible to play for the Lilywhites. That may change if he does manage to line out in the Kildare championship but for now, he, like Parkinson, will be restricted to the sidelines.
Bradley missed
Derry against Donegal hardly needs any extra hype but the return of Paddy Bradley for the Oak Leaf County makes it extra special this Sunday. The supremely talented forward missed out on this game last year because of his cruciate injury so he is raring to go this time.
Reports, as always, say that he is flying in training but we are inclined to believe it when it comes to Bradley. After two years on the sideline will there be a more determined footballer in Ballybofey on Saturday? We doubt it. Can’t wait.
