Mexican keeper Jorge Campos became a legend in his own right in the 1994 World Cup, and evidence of how lurid football fashion had become during the 90s.

This feature has been looking at some well known jerseys from yesteryear, such as the Holland strip of 1988, but thanks to Jorge Campos we are focusing on an individual circa the mid 90s, with particular focus on USA 94.

Campos’ kits were particularly questionable and featured an array of brightly coloured flashes, panels and fluorescence with distinctive floppy sleeves. Theories abounded that these increasingly loud tops were designed to put off the opposition, and it didn’t help Ireland as we suffered a 2-1 defeat in the searing heat in Orlando.
