Load of barracks; Irish soldier gets property tax bill for army accommodation

We’ve heard of all sorts of errors in the property tax demands so far but billing a soldier for his billet has to be a new one.

Nobody is a fan of the property tax. As we speak, thousands of demands are being pushed through letterboxes all over the country and the vast majority are an unwelcome extra demand on an already pressed household.

But some are just so ludicrous, you have to laugh. Take this one, sent into our Facebook page today. A soldier who was based in Dublin’s Cathal Brugha Barracks was billed €427 for his digs, even though he clearly doesn’t own them. You’d think the state would know they owned the place. And the killer is, he is no longer even based at that barracks.

As admin errors go, it’s a big one and we can safely assume the bill won’t be paid.
