Our Love Your County series continues today with a focus on Leitrim and the glory days of 1994.
Sporting moment: Connacht champions 1994
1994 will be forever etched on the minds of any Leitrim native who was around to witness on of the greatest summers in their GAA history. Under John OāMahonyās stewardship, they edged past both Roscommon and Galway (via a replay) by a point before taking on hotly-fancied Mayo in the Provincial decider.
Despite conceding Ā goal after just 20 seconds, they bravely fought back and claimed victory by two points. The scenes afterwards may never be seen again, coming 67 years after their only previous success.
They just fell short in their quest to reach the All-Ireland Final, but put up one hell of a battle to Dublin at the penultimate stage. It was however a wonderful journey for the Green and Gold.
Parkeās Castle
This idyllic setting on the banks of Lough Gill, Parkeās Castle is a plantation era castle. The castle had extensive and sensitive restoration carried out at the end of the 20th century by the Office of Public Works and is a really interesting tour for anyone with a passing interest in Irish history.
