In what has to be the most brilliant example of life imitating art we’ve ever heard of, a man named Bart Simpson has appeared before a judge called Mr. Burns in the UK. Eeeeexcellent.
In a court case that we can only hope began with Judge Burns addressing the plaintiff by saying ‘Simpson, eh?’ company owner Barton Simpson this week stood trial at Warwick Crown Court facing a charge of possessing a prohibited firearm at Birmingham airport in May of last year.
Unfortunately that's about it as far as details about the case are concerned but commenting on the case, a court worker did tell the Daily Mirror: “It’s a bizarre coincidence that Bart Simpson is actually on trial in front of Mr Burns but it’ll proceed as any other criminal case would."
“There were some eyebrows raised when the court list was published.”
Of course, it's not the first time life has imitated art in somewhat unfortunate circumstances as only last year, a man named Walter White was arrested for cooking crystal meth (Breaking Bad fans will understand the reference) in the US, while a man named Omar Little - also the name of a character in The Wire - was shot dead in Baltimore, where the series is set.
Unconfirmed reports suggest that Mr. Simpson’s defence went something like this…
… but if found guilty he can expect the following punishment…
