There is more than a whiff of idle speculation to this one, but Mark Lawrenson on The Last Word yesterday made the throwaway comment that RVP reportedly wants out of Old Trafford.
Before we get into the merits of Lawrenson’s claims to Cooper on Today FM yesterday, and we will, on the face of it, it’s not the most outlandish idea we have ever heard. United have struggled badly this year and look to have a real fight on their hands to make the top four, never mind retain their title, while the Dutchman has missed a few games through injury.
However, this is Lawro, and a bucketload of salt is generally required with many of his statements and opinions, though he claims to have some inside information.
One of the “press boys” he knows who covers United extensively told him that RVP might just well have followed Wayne Rooney’s lead and handed in a transfer request on Tuesday night. It’s “the big rumour” he mischievously added.
What makes it even better is the delivery, a simple throwaway comment as if it is no big deal that their star player is about to leave.

We won’t be putting any money on the Dutchman leaving just yet, though if it does come to pass, Lawro will have the last laugh.
