Knock Airport is enjoying some recent popularity, as August was the airport’s busiest month ever.
The airport has thousands of people flocking west to get the flock out of Ireland. August saw a healthy 5.9 per cent increase on the number of passengers who used the airport in the same time last year. 84,000 people used the airport in the month making it an increasingly popular place to travel to and from.
The news gets better for Knock, as 2011 has been the airports busiest year in its history. So far, from January to August, the airport has seen a total of 451,186 passengers, which is a 14 per cent increase on 2010 levels.
Traffic from the UK has increased by 5 per cent while overall traffic numbers increased by 10 per cent for the month of August.
Irish passengers are waking up to the ease and availability of Knock Airport as the figures show over 94,000 Irish passengers used the airport as a departure point for sun and continental holidaymakers. This is a 41 per cent increase on 2010.
Commenting on the results, Joe Gilmore, Airport Managing Director, told Business World, "New routes this year to Lanzarote, Las Palmas and Tenerife added to the other sun destinations in Spain and Portugal have proved a success with families in particular finding the ease of access into and through the airport very convenient."
