Despite previous speculation that CBS wouldn’t kill off Charlie Sheen’s character from Two And A Half Men, the new series will open with his funeral.

The funeral of Sheen’s semi-fictional wildman character Charlie Harper is understood to open the ninth season of the hit sitcom, according to Deadline Hollywood. The site’s report also mentioned that Charlie’s ex-girlfriends from the show will all be returning for the episode.

As yet, it is unknown where new series star Ashton Kutcher will fit into the show, or whether or not he is a family member to the show’s survivors Jon Cryer and Angus T Young.

Apparently both cast members and audience members have been asked to sign non-disclosure agreements for the highly secretive opening episode. The ninth season will begin on US television on September 19.

The previous series of the US’ biggest comedy show was abrupt cut in half after Charlie Sheen’s highly publicised feud with showrunner Chuck Lorre, who Sheen described as a “worm”.

For what it’s worth, the self-proclaimed “bitchin’ rock star from Mars” is set to make his small screen comeback in a TV version of the Adam Sandler hit Anger Management, which is currently in pre-production.
