Plans to build an artificial ski slop resort north of Dundalk have been described as "pretty strange" by An Taisce.
Ian Lumley of An Taisce declaring that while he was "not opposed" to building the ski slope, he had concerns over the Dowdallshill site being situated on a category A flood plain and its relative unsuitability for the country.
"Instead of building an artificial ski slope, which is a pretty strange thing to do in Ireland, it would be better to develop tourism around activities which make use of indigenous resources, such as walking, hiking, kayaking, climbing," he said.
"The extent of materials being introduced to the site represents a major interference in an area that had not yet been explored for historical purposes."
"The proposed development is located on a flood plain, at a time when we have increasing uncertainty with climate change in the future."
Flood plain or not, here at JOE we're tired tired and hiking and climbing - you can do that anywhere - so we're hoping for, nay we demand, our own artificial ski slope. Get it done already, An Taisce!
