One of Thiago’s team-mates on the Spain under-21 side wrote ‘See you in Manchester’ on the match ball he took home from the victory over Italy in the Euro under-21 final. Any idea who was responsible?

The Barcelona midfielder delivered an outstanding individual display in what was an outstanding team performance in victory over Italy yesterday, scoring a hat-trick in a 4-2 win and generally looking quite good in everything that he did.

Having scored a hat-trick, Thiago claimed the match ball, which he got signed by all of his team-mates, one of whom scribbled the message ‘Nos Vemos en Manchester’, which translates as ‘See you in Manchester’.

The most obvious explanation, of course, is that it was written by David de Gea of Manchester United, who have been heavily linked with a move for Thiago in recent weeks.

It has also been suggested that it could have been written by the brilliant Isco, who could be about to follow Manuel Pellegrini from Malaga to Manchester City, or a little less interestingly, by Joel Robles, who is currently on the books at Wigan.

Obviously, a message scribbled on a ball will  have no effect on where Thiago will be playing his football next season – although stories have been printed based on less – but it will only serve to heighten speculation about his future for the time being at least.
