Few people divide opinion in this country like Roy Keane, but all credit to him for popping in to check on Drogheda United’s Gary O’Neill, who was recently diagnosed with testicular cancer.
Keane was back at home this week and made an appearance at Ronan O’Gara’s testimonial dinner on Thursday as well as showing up at Turner’s Cross for the meeting of Cork City and new Airtricity League Champions St. Patrick’s Athletic last night.
The former Manchester United and Ireland skipper also took time out to pay a visit to Drogheda United’s Gary O’Neill while he in the country, visiting him in Ashbourne yesterday to check on his progress after he was diagnosed with testicular cancer last month.

It had been revealed earlier this month that Keane had donated a sum understood to be €5,000 towards a PFAI fund set-up to go towards the cost of O’Neill’s medical treatment.
He certainly doesn’t court any publicity for his good deeds, but this side of Keane is one that doesn’t always get attention and he deserves plenty of kudos for what is a pretty classy gesture.
Fair play Roy and we wish Gary all the best in his continued recovery.
