NEC Nijmegen’s have ditched the bit of crystal and the bottle of champagne for the upcoming season.

This is one idea we don’t think will ever be picked up by the GAA, though it would make The Sunday Game a bit racier. Eredivise club NEC Nijmegen have decided to award their Man of the Match winner a rather unusual reward.

Instead of the usual handshake from a sponsor and a wee token of appreciation the player will instead have his car washed by three bikini-clad women.

The first winner was a former Liverpool youth player named Victor Palsson, who got the nod after Nijmegen drew 1-1 with Spanish side Osasuna in a pre-season friendly.

Palsson tweeted this picture confirming that the prize was no hoax.

It’s certainly a novel incentive to play well. Reports that John Terry, Ashley Cole and Wayne Rooney are angling for a move to the club are unfounded at this stage.
