Pic: Even more jerseys added to the Liam Whelan bridge as Whelan family thank Bohs supporters for the clean-up efforts

This is just great to see and the perfect response to the mindless vandals who painted graffiti onto the bridge earlier this week.

Thankfully, the message painted onto the Liam Whelan memorial bridge, reading ‘Munich b******’ and ‘LFC’ had been cleaned up by volunteers from Bohemians within hours of it appearing in the first place and since then, a number of football fans based in the Cabra locality have placed jerseys from a wide range of clubs on the bridge in what could be described as a display of solidarity against the idiots who desecrated it in the first place.

Yesterday we posted a picture of a handful of jerseys that had been placed on the bridge on Monday night, a bridge which contains a plaque dedicated to former Manchester United star Liam Whelan, who was one of eight United players to perish in the Munich disaster in 1958.

Since then, the number of jerseys on the bridge has dramatically increased, as is illustrated in this picture taken yesterday by JOE’s own Sean Nolan, who lives nearby.

Bohemian Football Club also posted a statement on their Facebook page passing on a message of thanks to the Bohs supporters who helped in the clean-up effort, which read: “The Whelan family would like to thank the Bohemian supporters for all they’ve done with their work on the Liam Whelan Bridge, cleaning and repairing the damage to the plaque and its surrounds.

“Their swift response and valuable work is much appreciated by the entire Whelan family.”

The response really has been great to see and fair play to everyone who helped out.
