Liverpool fans needed some good news to soften the blow of Iago Aspas going to Sevilla on loan for next season and now they have it.

The club today confirmed the signing of Serbian international Lazar Markovic from Benfica, with the 20-year old putting pen to paper on a long-term deal and becoming the Reds’ fourth signing of the summer following the arrivals of Rickie Lambert, Adam Lallana and Emre Can at Anfield.

A versatile attacking player, Markovic scored seven goals in 49 appearances for Benfica last season and has been a regular for the Serbian national side since making his debut in 2012.

He’s also capable of scoring delightful goals like this…

Commenting on his decision to join Liverpool, Markovic said: “I am very happy that I have joined such a great club.

“I hope that I will fulfil the expectations of the supporters, coaches, players and all connected to the club. I have seen what the players are like, I have seen what the supporters are like, and I cannot wait to start playing here.”
