Pic: Some cheeky scamp has put Liverpool’s ‘bottle’ up for sale on DoneDeal

Harsh? Maybe, but we can’t say we’re surprised.

Harsh? Maybe, but we can’t say we’re surprised.

Rivalry between the fans of various football clubs has existed for generations and although it might not be as bad, in a tangible sense at least, as it was when hooliganism was at its height in the 70s and 80s, you definitely see more evidence of it on a regular basis these days thanks to the Internet.

As such, it was little surprise that Liverpool fans had to put up with an awful lot of slagging following their capitulation at Crystal Palace on Monday night, a result that went a long way towards swinging the title race in Manchester City’s favour.

As well as the numerous tweets and memes targeting Gerrard, Suarez and company, one DoneDeal user went as far as to put up an ad in the Lost and Found section of DoneDeal inquiring about the whereabouts of Liverpool’s bottle, which, the seller (one Brendan Rogers) says, was “last seen making a bee-line for the exit at Selhurst Park on Monday May 5th 2014”.

Although it’s not particularly offensive, Liverpool fans might not take the content of the ad too well so we’re not going to be repeat the majority of what is said here (you can check it out for yourself here) although we will admit that the last line (see below) comes with a particularly large dose of zing.

“Please forward any leads to Liverpool FC. (However it seems they have a habit of not holding onto leads!!)”

Some will see this as a good-natured example of fan rivalry and others might be a bit more offended but we’ll let you decide for yourself and you can feel free to let us know in the comment box below.

In the meantime, JOE is off to hide behind the couch as the debate starts.

Hat-tip to Colm Barrett for sending this one our way
