One of the most phenomenal prospects in international football a few years ago, the story of the decline of Adriano has been a sad one, and it took another turn today after he failed a medical with Internacional. Former Brazil coach Dunga had asked them to take him on, but the transfer was vetoed by the club doctors after he failed his medical, having turned up completely out of shape, and he remains a free agent as a result.
This will be no surprise for those who have been following his career since he left Europe, and he has had some well publicised personal issues in the last few years. For those of us who remember O Imperador in his pomp when he was on the cover of Pro Evo 6 (the greatest football game there’s ever been), this will be another unpleasant piece of news. Hopefully, Adriano can get the help that he needs to deal with his issues and make one last shot at playing professionally, there is not doubting that there is a world-class talent in there, and he had a serious left boot.
