Recently, you may have seen a little feature we did on how to save money with a gas boiler. Well now it’s the turn of the immersion heater.

Water heating

Immersion heaters are a convenient way to heat water as they allow you to heat as much or as little water as you need. However, did you know that you can save up to 30% on your water heating running costs by taking a few simple steps? Seriously lads, saving a few quid could be this simple.

Firstly, you should make sure to wrap your boiler in a thick, good quality 80mm lagging jacket, just make sure to follow the manufacturer’s guidelines before you fit it. This could help to save up to 30% on your water heating costs and it will pay for itself in a couple of months. Look out for international approval standards mark on a new lagging jacket before buying it. You don’t want to walk off with something shoddy.

A lagging jacket can make all the difference

Another way to save a few pennies in the hot press alone is to insulate the heating pipes that run through it.

Once you have your boiler sorted you should try to maintain it as best as possible. You can always install a count-down timer for occasional hot water requirements. These require just a simple push of a button to start heating the water. Simples.

There’s loads you can do, so be sure to check out Electric Ireland’s tips to make your water boiler more energy efficient.
