Reasons to attend Bavaria Racing, Part 15: High speed buggies

Size matters, but not all the time and not at Bavaria City Racing Dublin where some of the smallest machines will be making some of the biggest shapes and the loudest noises.

In some cases, such as say, the size of a man's feet (because of its apparent relevance to the size of something else of course), size does matter, but it doesn’t have to be the be all and end all.

There’s always room for the little guy and while ‘little’ isn’t a word you’d associate with some of the high-performance buggies that will be the wowing the crowds at Bavaria City Racing Dublin, they’re not exactly on the same scale as, for instance, Jenson Button’s McLaren Mercedes, Eugene Donnelly’s WRC car or Adam Carroll’s Breezemount GT2, all of which will also be in attendance on the day.

What the buggies lack in size, however, they make up for in speed, sound and impact. The buggies that Joe Cullen and his team will be piloting around the streets of Dublin this weekend are capable of going from 0-60 in just over two seconds and can reach a top speed of somewhere in the region of 110 miles per hour.

Anyone that’s been to a Formula One race will know just how necessary ear plugs are to prevent your drums from bursting, but if you think that they’ll be safe when the buggies hit the Bavaria track, you’ll be sadly mistaken. The sound emitted by the buggies is quite incredible and when JOE caught up the other Joe (Cullen that is) recently, he felt that it is the sound more than anything else that will blow the crowds away.

“An F1 car goes to about 18,000 revs, but I think the buggies will be up on about 20,000 revs, there really is a phenomenal sound out of them,” Joe told us (our full interview with Joe will be live on the site later this week, so keep your eyes on the Bavaria Racing section for more).

The agility of the buggies is another aspect of what should make for an extremely interesting and entertaining segment of the whole host of activities going on this weekend, as although there isn’t much that can’t be said for the F1 cars, the buggies will be pulling off some moves that even Jenson Button himself couldn’t manage in his McLaren.

Anxious to maintain the element of surprise, Joe was reluctant to elaborate on what exactly he and his team would have in store for the home crowds on Sunday, but for a taste of what it might be like, check out the video below.

Bavaria City Racing comes to Dublin on June 3. The event is FREE to attend, but fans who want to get that bit closer to the action can avail of tickets to the premium performance zones.
