RTÉ is to take a few wary steps into the 21st century tomorrow as RTÉ Two HD is to launch for all Sky HD customers.

Having already launched on Saorview last year and on UPC on late March of 2012, the channel promises to provide Sky’s HD customers with access to a wide range of programming including the Euro 2012, the European Athletics Championships, selected GAA Hurling and Football and the Olympic Games in HD for the first time.

Glen Killane, RTÉ Managing Director of Television said of the multi-year deal: “RTÉ is committed to bringing its programming to as wide an audience as possible and we’re delighted to be able to bring RTÉ Two HD to viewers on the Sky platform.

"RTÉ Two HD offers Sky viewers a range of international drama like The Good Wife, CSI NY, Nurse Jackie and Blue Bloods as well as an unbeatable range of sporting events throughout the summer from Euro 2012 to selected GAA Football and Hurling - including the Finals – as well as the Olympics.  We look forward to expanding the offering in HD over time.”

A similarly enthused Mark Deering, Director of Sky Ireland, added: “We’re delighted to welcome RTÉ Two HD as another quality HD channel to Sky.

"With an increasingly diverse mix of channels and programmes, Sky continues to extend its HD leadership, and RTE Two HD will help to further satisfy the demands of thousands who now regard anything less than HD as a compromise.”

For those of you disturbed and confused by this new development, rest assured that RTE Two HD will be located at channel number 102 on the Sky programming guide, exactly where the previous version of the channel had always been.
