What is probably the greatest innovation since the TV Hat has landed. The Candwich is the invention you wish you’d thought of first – a sandwich in a can.
The somewhat alarming new foodstuff was invented in the US by Markonefoods and has a shelf-life of a year.
It can be dispensed by vending machines and although it’s not yet in shops, you can buy a four-pack online for €8.
If you’re really in love with it, you can shell out €50 for a full slab of 24 cans.
The Candwich comes in a range of terrifying flavours including US-style peanut butter and grape jam, BBQ chicken and pepperoni pizza. Which, confusingly, would surely constitute a pizza in a can.
Creator Mark Kirkland said, “My original idea was to stack cookies in a soft drink can to sell in soft drink vending machines. I started looking for a technology for shelf-stable sandwiches, which I wanted because it was a healthy and convenient meal.”
Healthy? You're taking the piss. It’s hard to know whether to be elated or appalled.
