Two years ago he was at Manchester City, now the Donegal stopper will be playing for Championship side Doncaster Rovers.

After a season of exclusion at Aston Villa it was always a certainty that Shay Given would be headed somewhere during the closed season. Celtic were mentioned, as were Hull, but it seems the former Irish international will instead be between the sticks at the Keepmoat Stadium next season.

The Daily Mail report the news and it confirms a serious drop in level for Given. At 37, and with a history of injuries in recent years, it might make sense but it hurts a little to see such an Irish legend fail to get a gig in the Premier League.

The Given to Doncaster rumour was first floated about three weeks ago and it was largely dismissed. That rumour also said that Richard Dunne would also be joining the headed to Doncaster. Irish investors are also reported to be involved and that might also explain the moves of Given, and potentially Dunne.

The same Mail article also suggests that Stephen Ireland could be headed to Doncaster too. We might be keeping a close eye on Doncaster next season…
