South Africa 87-0 Namibia
Bryan Habana became the leading try-scorer in South African history with a first half touchdown as the Springboks had their way with a hapless Namibia in Auckland.
The man who once outran a cheetah notched his 39th international try in the first half and thus ended a 15-month scoring drought as Peter de Villiers’ side scored 87 unanswered points at North Harbour Stadium.
Gio Aplon, Francois Hougaard and Juan de Jongh all scored a brace of tries for the Springboks, Jaque Fourie, Francois Steyn, Morne Steyn and Danie Rossouw grabbed a try apiece, while South Africa were also awarded a penalty try in a completely one-sided encounter.
Morne Steyn and Ulster’s Ruan Pienaar kicked six conversions each, while Steyn also converted a penalty in a 100 per cent kicking return for the Springboks, a strange occurrence in a tournament in which kickers have so far failed to distinguish themselves.
South Africa remain well on course to top Pool D after this embarrassingly easy victory, with Wales, Samoa and Fiji battling it out for second place.
