A new possible destination for Suarez, Rooney could be waiting a long time for an apology and somebody get Gus Poyet’s number.

A new possible destination for Suarez, Rooney could be waiting a long time for an apology and somebody get Gus Poyet’s number.

Gareth Bale and Luis Suarez have dominated the transfer headlines since the end of the season, and while the Welshman’s name is notable by its absence in today’s papers, Luis Suarez may have a new suitor.

Real Madrid have long been linked with the man currently on Confederations Cup duty and if you believe all the quotes attributed to the Uruguayan, then it is far from unrequited love. The Mirror says Liverpool have warned Madrid to “put up or shut up”, or whatever the Spanish equivalent is, while The Sunday Express says that Manchester City are about to join the race to win Suarez’s striker.

City have not been linked with the Anfield player to any strong degree, and the move would make financial sense for both parties. The only drawback is he would still have to deal with the English press, which seems to be a major bone of contention.

Lots of Wayne Rooney stories floating around today, from a swap deal with Madrid for Ronaldo (The Star Sunday) to telling David Moyes he wants to stay at Old Trafford (The Mirror) but our favourite piece comes from The Sunday People.

They suggest that Rooney is demanding an apology from Alex Ferguson for his parting comments about the striker when he said the former Everton man had handed in a transfer request. Leaving aside the fact we strongly doubt the substance to this story, we would love to see Fergie’s reaction if Rooney pushed this one. Could be a cold day in hell.

The Sunday Express says David Moyes returns from holiday this week determined to make a spectacular signing, with Gareth Bale, Cesc Fabregas, Robert Lewandowski and Cristiano Ronaldo all possible options. Really? Never heard of them.

Tottenham Hotspur v Sunderland - Premier League

A contrasting day for Arsene Wenger, The Sun going with the story of a scathing attack from Tony Adams, who has reportedly offered to help the board find a replacement, while The Mirror says the same board are willing to do everything in their power to fend off interest in their manager from PSG.

Staying in Norf Landan, Spurs will face stiff competition from Fiorentina to sign Barcelona’s David Villa, while The Sunday Mirror says that Stoke are prepared to offer £6 million for left-back Danny Rose.

In other reported moves, Kenwyne Jones could be heading for Swansea, Julio Cesar to Roma and Darren Bent could be going to anyone willing to match his £65,000 a week wages.

Finally, The Sunday People claim Mike Ashley will bring in Gus Poyet if Alan Pardew decides he can take no more of Joe Kinnear at Newcastle. Yes that is ‘if’ he can’t take anymore. Quick, somebody get Poyet’s mobile number.
