There have already been reports of a number of incidents on the roads this morning as freezing fog, frost and in some cases sleet has hit the country.
Forecaster Joan Blackburn has said that the temperature could drop even further depending on how calm the night before is, but did say that it is not unexpected weather for this time of year.
The Irish Road Safety Authority has urged drivers to slow down on the roads, with 152 fatalities so far and 23 pedestrians losing their lives. Anyone walking at night has been advised to wear appropriate footwear and hi-vis jackets.
Pedestrians this morning will have noticed the slippery underfoot conditions, so it is as good a time as any to re-live this appropriate clip. It just never gets old.
