The heatwave is over, but it’s not all bad news on the weather front

The boiling temperatures we have had for the last while are gone, but this week should still be better than average.

The boiling temperatures we have had for the last while are gone, but this week should still be better than average.

It’s official. The great Irish heatwave of 2013 is no more. The overworked folks in Met Eireann, specifically forecaster David Rogers, told the Irish Independent: “The heatwave is officially over”.

That means that the heat that saw the mercury reach 30 degrees in some places is gone, and that we will see the odd shower of thundery rain this week in places.

However, it is far from bad news, weather wise. No large amounts of rainfall are predicted and temperatures will reach the mid-20s when the cloud cover clears. Even with it being a cloudier week it is expected to be 19-20 degrees in most places, with night-time temperatures and humidity remaining high.

No need to dig out the umbrella, scarf and gloves just yet then…
