Nicolas Cage probably doesn’t like to be reminded that his $2.16 million Action Comics No 1 was stolen back in 2000, but now there might even be a heist movie surrounding the theft.
If you’re unfamiliar with the story, we’ll give you the basic background. Cage is a huge Superman fan – having even named his son ‘Kal-El’, the hero’s Kryptonian name – and once massed an incredible comic book collection that include one of the world’s best-preserved Action Comics No 1 issue – Superman’s first appearance.
However, the comic was stolen from Cage’s collection back in 2000, recovered following the purchase of a disused storage locker in 2011 and this past November, sold for a whopping $2.16 million – a new record.
If you ask Reno 911! creators Robert Ben Garant and Thomas Lennon, that’s everything you need for an upcoming heist movie. The duo are currently developing the as-yet untitled project and have written the part of Cage with the actor in mind. Should Cage refuse to take the role, Jason Statham has been mooted as his replacement.
Although the film seems quiet cruel, it’ would be unmissable should Cage decide to take the part and play himself. After all, how fussy could a guy that’s starred in two Ghost Rider movies be?
