There’s a lot of strange things getting nicked in Limerick lately. The latest stolen object? A galvanised gate. Yes, you read that right.

The Limerick Leader reports that a galvanised gate was mercilessly stolen from the entrance to a field during the dark of night. Absolutely shocking.

Now, we’re not entirely sure why someone would go to the bother of stealing a massive gate under the cloak of darkness, but they must have had a pretty good reason.

The gardaí have said that it is an “unusual crime and not something that is very prevalent.” Insightful, right? We thought so.

Anyway, Garda John Finnerty has said that the galvanised gate was nicked between the hours of midnight and 9am.

Gardaí in Askeaton are investigating the crime and are looking for anyone who saw anything suspicious – such as a man running away with a massive gate whilst cackling with glee at enacting the perfect crime.

But it’s not just galvanised gates that have been stolen in Limerick, oh no. Last year in Bruff three metal drinking troughs for cattle mysteriously disappeared and various parts of a Massey Ferguson tractor were stolen from a garage.

Two tonnes of fertiliser were also stolen recently.

Hmm…now we’re no detectives, but does anyone else find it strange that all the stolen objects relate to farming in some way, shape or form?

Clearly the only logical explanation is that someone is trying to set up some kind of illegal farm. It suddenly all makes sense…
